Postnatal Health Meal Plan — Barley Porridge

Nutritional Summary:

Barley rich in fiber and carbohydrates. It helps prevent constipation and replenishing energy.

 

Ingredients:

  • 30 g Barley
  • 20 g White rice
  • 20 g peanuts (remove shell)
  • Longan 10 g
  • Brown sugar 10 g
  • 1 slice of ginger or tangerine peel

 

Method:

  1. Remove the shells of the peanuts and soak them briefly, drain and set aside.
  2. Wash the barely and longan. Soak them in warm water for more than 4 hours.
  3. Prepare 1.5 litres of boiling water and add the soaked barley, peanuts, longan and ginger slices (tangerine peel can be used to replace ginger).
  4. Bring to boil over medium heat for about half an hour, then switch to low heat and add in rice.
  5. After cooking over low heat for 1 hour, you can add brown sugar for seasoning. Turn off the heat and it will become a delicious dessert or be used as a substitute for rice at main meal.
