Liver is one of the largest internal organ that has multiple functions in the body, including bile production and excretion, metabolism of fat, protein and carbohydrates, storage of glycogen, production of albumin and clotting factors, and detoxification of blood. Liver diseases usually present as elevation of liver enzymes or impairment of liver function. As liver does not have pain nerve endings, pain is not a common feature of liver diseases. When patients experience pain over the abdomen, it may already indicate a late stage liver disease.
