Heart-oriented Innovation-driven

Union Hospital 30th Anniversary

Guided by the principle of "benefiting the community," our founder, Dr the Honourable Lee Shau Kee, GBM, Chairman of Henderson Land Development, established Hong Kong's first private hospital in the Eastern New Territories, naming it Union Hospital. Today, Union Hospital has transformed into a regional healthcare network that offers over 40 specialties, including oncology, emergency services, and reproductive medicine. It has delivered nearly 100,000 babies and served over one million patients.

Three Decades of Milestones

Breaking New Ground as a Pioneer in Healthcare

Over the past thirty years, Union Hospital Hospital has set numerous precedents in private healthcare — from being the first hospital in Hong Kong to achieve ISO certification to establishing the first accredited private emergency centre. Our 30th anniversary marks a new beginning, as we continue to innovate around patient needs, leveraging technology to enhance precision medicine and design to elevate healing experiences.

1992-1995

Union Hospital officially opened on July 1, 1995, with a mission to provide exceptional medical services and care.

1999

The first medical institution to receive the ISO 9002:1994 international quality certification from Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA).

1997-2007

We have established polyclinics throughout Kowloon and the New Territories, providing a wide range of specialist services.

2004-2006

We were the first to introduce hotel-style private rooms, offering patients a new and comfortable hospital stay experience.

2008

The first private emergency centre licensed by the Department of Health and the Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine.

2011

We developed Hong Kong’s first "Mobile Clinical Solution System," which enables healthcare professionals to access patient records, document patient conditions, and manage prescriptions through electronic handheld devices. This innovation greatly enhances efficiency and accuracy, earning multiple awards.

2019

We launched Hong Kong’s first private hospital mobile application, enabling the public to access consultation information, including emergency medicine registration and medication checks.

2020

Establishing the Union Oncology Centre, Union Reproductive Medicine Centre, and Union Medical Imaging & Health Check Centre at H Zentre in Tsim Sha Tsui.

2021-2024

We expanded once again, adding semi-private single rooms and a sky garden, optimising our medical facilities.

2025

We introduced Hong Kong's first dual-source photon computed tomography (PCCT) and a new pathology department, significantly enhancing diagnostic and care standards.

Breaking Tradition and Redefining Spaces

Transforming Every Corner into a Part of the Healing Experience

Innovation at Union Hospital extends beyond technology to spatial design, addressing the diverse needs of patients through thoughtful details that transcend traditional healthcare experiences.

Women’s Exclusive Medical Spaces

Our Union Oncology Centre features a dedicated Ladies’ Area, designed for privacy and comfort. All medical and technical staff in this area are women, ensuring female patients feel secure during their care.

Balance of Nature and Technology

On the 6th floor, we have created a sky garden with over 50 healing plants, allowing nature to nurture the mind and body while enhancing patient comfort.

Diverse Room Options

We offer a variety of room types to meet guest needs. In 2024, we will introduce new semi-private single rooms that provide the facilities of a suite at a semi-private room budget, ensuring independent space for all.

Innovating with Heart

Hospital is constantly pursuing technological breakthroughs to enhance patient experience and treatment outcomes. We launched Hong Kong’s first private hospital mobile application, allowing the public to access consultation information, such as emergency medicine registration and medication checking, anytime through the ‘E-Reg’ and ‘Medcheck’ functions. Furthermore, the development of Hong Kong’s first “Mobile Clinical Solution System”, enabling the healthcare professionals to access patient records, record patient conditions, and administer prescriptions through electronic hand-held devices, effectively reducing human error risks. We are also actively introducing minimally invasive surgical techniques and automated diagnostic tools to shorten recovery times and enhance diagnostic accuracy, reflecting our relentless pursuit of medical quality.

A Blueprint for

A Happy and Healthy Future

Looking ahead, Union Hospital will continue to uphold our guiding principle of “Caring, Reliable, and Empathetic,” delivering an even better medical experience to our patients.

By embracing artificial intelligence and robotic technology while actively pursuing smart healthcare and sustainable development, we aim to further enhance the precision and efficiency of diagnosis, treatment, and care. The hospital also plans to expand to 600 beds, which will strengthen our service capacity and quality.

We have always believed that if every patient can leave Union Hospital with peace of mind and joy, we have fulfilled our original mission as a “happy hospital.”

Partnering with the Community for a Healthier Future

We believe that healthcare should extend beyond the consultation room and wards. To celebrate our 30th anniversary, we are actively collaborating with charitable organisations and community organisations to host a series of health seminars and free medical activities, aiming to bring professional medical knowledge and care into the community, promoting health awareness, and collectively safeguarding the health of our society.
