Good sleep is the foundation of children’s growth, emotional regulation, and physical health. However, breathing and sleep problems often affect each other, and children face different sleep challenges at various ages. We provide two assessment services led by a professional medical team, combining medical evaluation, advanced equipment, and psychological guidance to comprehensively support your child’s night-time health.
Poor sleep in children is often a multifactorial issue. Common underlying causes may include:
Sleep is a crucial time for children’s growth and brain development. Long-term sleep problems not only prevent children from getting enough rest, but may also have a lasting impact on their physical and mental health.
Poor sleep may reduce concentration, memory and learning performance.
Lack of quality sleep may increase anxiety, emotional instability and insecurity.
Sleep difficulties may disrupt family routines and increase caregiver stress.
Children’s sleep problems often affect the routine and emotions of the whole family. Our assessment programme is centred around the child and family. By combining medical and psychological professional analysis, we help identify the root causes of poor sleep, such as sleep habits, physical discomfort, anxiety or stress. We provide practical and achievable recommendations to help you and your child build healthy sleep habits and regain a calm and reassuring bedtime routine.

When Should You Bring Your Child for Assessment?
Professional support is recommended when your child’s sleep problems persist and begin to affect daytime energy, learning performance, emotions, or the routine and quality of life of the whole family.
If a child often snores, breathes through the mouth during sleep, or even has brief pauses in breathing, it may not simply mean that the child is sleeping deeply or has nasal congestion. These signs may be related to paediatric obstructive sleep apnoea, which can affect sleep quality, daytime energy, concentration, behaviour and growth development.
The Sleep Apnoea Assessment Service uses paediatric specialist assessment and overnight sleep testing to help parents understand the child’s breathing during sleep, identify problems early, and develop personalised treatment and follow-up plans according to the child’s needs.
What Is Paediatric Obstructive Sleep Apnoea?
Paediatric obstructive sleep apnoea occurs when the upper airway becomes temporarily blocked during sleep, making breathing difficult or causing brief pauses in breathing. This may lead to short periods of reduced oxygen levels and repeated sleep interruptions, making it difficult for the child to enter deep sleep. Even if the child appears to have slept for enough hours, poor sleep quality may cause daytime tiredness, difficulty concentrating, emotional instability or behavioural problems.
Common Causes
Paediatric sleep apnoea may be caused by different factors. Common causes include:

How Is an Overnight Sleep Test Conducted?
The child usually needs to stay in the hospital for one night. Before bedtime, a sleep technician will place recording sensors on the child’s head and body to record physiological data during sleep, including:
| Assessment Type | What Does It Address? | Common Daily Signs |
|---|---|---|
| Children’s Sleep Health Assessment | Adjusts habits and routines: Identifies poor sleep caused by psychological, environmental, or routine factors. | Takes long to fall asleep, delays bedtime, wakes frequently, easily startled, disrupted body clock, or daytime tiredness. |
| Sleep Apnoea Assessment | Assesses nighttime breathing: Focuses on physiological and airway obstruction issues, with sleep testing if required. | Loud snoring, habitual mouth breathing, apparent breathing pauses, laboured breathing, or frequent sweating during sleep. |
Good sleep helps children regulate emotions, improve concentration and support healthy development. Please contact our professional medical team to learn more about the assessment services.
