Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is a fertility treatment designed to enhance the chances of conception, particularly for couples facing mild infertility. By placing processed sperm directly into the uterus during the woman’s ovulation, this procedure makes it easier for sperm to reach the egg, promoting fertilization.
Who Can Benefit from IUI:
  • Issues with Intercourse: Couples who face barriers to sexual intercourse due to physical or psychological conditions.
  • Mild Female Issues: Women with mild conditions such as endometriosis or ovulation disorders.
  • Mild Male Issues: Men with mild abnormality in their sperm count or quality.
  • Use of Donor Sperm: Couples who require donor sperm for conception
  • Unexplained Infertility: Couples facing infertility without a known cause.

Procedure Steps:
  • Professional Assessment: Patients meet with a doctor for a thorough evaluation of their health and medical history, ensuring that all information is transparent.
  • Necessary Testing: The doctor arranges hormone blood tests and ultrasound examinations to identify any underlying infertility issues.
  • Ovarian Stimulation: If necessary, medications are used to promote the maturation of the follicles, enhancing the chances of successful conception. However, the number of mature follicles should be limited to one to three to reduce the risk of multiple pregnancies. During treatment, the woman will undergo ultrasound scans to monitor follicle growth and prevent ovarian hyperstimulation.
  • IUI Procedure: On the day of ovulation, the husband’s sperm sample is collected, processed, and then injected into the uterine cavity.

After the sperm is injected, the doctor may prescribe fertility medications if needed (such as hormonal suppositories or progesterone injections). Typically, a urine pregnancy test can be done 14 days after the IUI。
