Hong Kong, 22 September 2025 – In its 30th anniversary year, Union Hospital is marking another joyous occasion with the birth of its 100,000th baby on 20 September. To celebrate this significant milestone, Union Hospital presented over HK$100,000 in red packets to the 100,000th family and other families whose babies were born on the same day, extending its warmest wishes for health and happiness to all new families.

The 100,000th baby of Union Hospital, is the beloved son of Mr and Mrs Cheung. He was born on 20 September 2025, weighing 3.43 kg. Mr and Mrs Cheung expressed their emotion and surprise that their baby was born safely and became the hospital’s 100,000th ‘Union Baby’. To commemorate this special occasion, Union Hospital prepared a series of celebratory gifts for the milestone family, including a complimentary upgrade to a private suite, a ‘Union Gold Medallion’, a HK$20,000 red packet, and an adorable ‘Union Baby’ sleeping bag. Additional sponsored gifts included a baby stroller, a newborn photography package, and a baby product hamper. Generous red packets were also given to all other ‘Union Babies’ born on the same day, filling the entire Obstetrics and Gynaecology floor with a joyful atmosphere.

Dr Anthony Lee Kai-yiu, Chief Hospital Manager and Medical Director of Union Hospital, presented the gifts to the 100,000th family and stated, ‘Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Cheung. More importantly, I want to extend our deepest gratitude to all the families who have chosen to deliver at Union Hospital over the past three decades. With the current low birth rate, parents who choose to have children deserve all our encouragement and support. The 100,000th ‘Union Baby’ is more than a number; it represents the trust and affirmation we have received from countless parents over the years. We wish all the babies healthy growth and all families happiness and joy.’

Union Hospital was founded with a focus on obstetrics and gynaecology and a vision of being a ‘happy hospital’. Today’s milestone is a testament to the dedicated team of healthcare professionals, who are committed to providing a safe and comfortable experience for every mother and newborn. Ms Pun Tsz Kei, Director of Nursing at Union Hospital, remarked, ‘Our top priority is to ensure the safety of every mother and baby through close collaboration within our medical team. Our nursing team provides meticulous follow-up on mothers’ physical recovery and emotional well-being after delivery, offering timely care and support. During times of anxiety and exhaustion, we strive to be a pillar of support for new mothers, providing attentive care and companionship to help them welcome their new family members with confidence and ease.’

Union Hospital is the first private hospital in Hong Kong to establish clinical services in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The department has been accredited by the Hong Kong College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists since 2000 and 2003, respectively. The Extension Block, which fully opened this year, added a dedicated obstetrics and gynaecology floor with 20 new semi-private single rooms, adjacent first-stage and delivery rooms, a central fetal monitoring system to provide mothers with an environment of the utmost safety and comfort. The nursing team also prepares thoughtful items for the mothers, such as stress-relieving massage oil, ginger water, and roasted rice tea, to ease their tension and fatigue before and after delivery, while respecting the traditional Chinese culture of ‘postpartum confinement’ (坐月). From prenatal check-ups and labor assistance to postpartum confinement care, the Hospital strives to provide one-stop and comprehensive care for every mother.
