Computed Tomography Scan (CT)

Advanced Technology
Precisely Matched with Care

To provide comprehensive, clearer, and precise clinical diagnoses, Union Hospital Medical Imaging continually introduces a range of advanced systems — including Hong Kong’s first Dual-Source Photon Counting CT Scanner (PCCT). Each system offers distinct advantages to meet different diagnostic needs, delivering  timely, precise and safediagnoses.

We understand that every patient is unique. Our professional medical team assesses your clinical condition, medical history, the area to be examined, and individual factors such as your ability to hold your breath, kidney function, and heart rate to tailor a suitable scanning solution for you. This ensures diagnostic accuracy while enhancing your comfort and safety.

Dual-Source Photon Counting CT Scanner

First Installed in Hong Kong with Ultra-Fast, Ultra High Resolution

Dual‑source Photon‑counting CT (PCCT) delivers high‑definition scans with lower radiation and contrast doses. It enables rapid detection of subtle lesions, supporting timely treatment decisions. Suitable for diagnosing coronary heart disease and early‑stage lung cancer.

Extensive Clinical Applications for Early Diagnosis

  • Cardiology: Clear coronary artery imaging, even with severe calcification or stent placement.
  • Neurology: Enhanced visualisation of tiny cerebral vessels, improving stroke and complex lesion diagnosis accuracy.
  • Cardiothoracic & Pulmonary Surgery: Low‑radiation, high-definition lung imaging aids early lung cancer screening.
  • Oncology: Ultra-thin slices for precise tumour assessment.

Ultra Defintion Imaging

With slice thickness as fine as 0.2 mm, it enables early detection of tiny lesions and provides clear assessment of coronary stents, fine structures, and vessel patency.

Low Radiation

Depending on the type of scan, radiation exposure may be reduced by up to 70%.

Low Contrast Load

Contrast dose by up to 30%, making it particularly suitable for patients with renal concerns.

Ultra‑fast Scanning

Thoracic scan completed in under 0.5 seconds; abdominal angiograms in 1 second, reducing breath-holding needs for elderly and children.

Dual-Source CT Scanner

Balancing Speed & Precision

The Dual-Source CT Scanner offers high-speed scanning, completing a full abdominal scan in just 1 second without breath-holding, making it particularly suitable for cardiac, vascular, and paediatric examinations.

Clinical Applications:

  • Cardiology: Coronary angiogram and vascular examinations.
  • Oncology: Tumour detection and staging.
  • Neurology: Brain lesion analysis.
  • Cardiothoracic & Abdominal: Comprehensive organ checks.
  • Urology & Orthopaedics: Kidney stone classification, joint uric acid analysis.

CT Examination Procedure
  1. Booking: Referral from a clinical doctor is required. Our radiology department will arrange the scan time.
  2. Preparation:
    • Fasting Requirement: If an abdominal examination is required, patients should fast for 4 hours beforehand.
    • Allergy history: If you have a history of contrast medium allergy, please inform our staff when booking or before the examination.
    • Kidney disease/diabetes: Provide serum creatinine within 6 months if over 65 or with these conditions.
    • Pregnancy: Inform staff if pregnant or unsure.
    • Cardiac scans: Avoid caffeine or stimulants 12 hours before coronary angiography.
  3. During the scan: Radiographer will position you; contrast injection if required.
  4. Scanning: Scan takes approximately 5–15 minutes, depending on the type of examination. Some scans require brief breath‑holding; your radiographer will guide you.
  5. After the scan: You may resume normal activities immediately; drink plenty of water if contrast was used.
  6. Report: Radiologist analyses images and prepares a report, which will be sent to your referring doctor for discussion and diagnostic reference.
