Elevating Patient Care through Medical Research

At Union Hospital, we are committed to improving patient care through the support of innovative and ethical research. Through the clinical practice and scientific exploration of our multidisciplinary teams, we constantly strive to elevate the standard of our medical services, providing patients with safer and better healthcare. We will continue to invest resources to create new opportunities for the advancement of medicine.

Rigorous Ethical Oversight

We have an Ethics Committee composed of a multidisciplinary team of independent individuals. This committee is appointed to review research protocols that involve human participants. Their role is to ensure the dignity, rights, safety, and well-being of all research participants are respected and protected. Furthermore, all of our research activities are conducted in accordance with the hospital's Research Governance Operational Procedures.

Generally, researchers must obtain written consent from participants before commencing any research. This is done after clearly explaining the full details of the study to the participants. Participants have the right to voluntarily choose whether to take part in the research or not. During participation, participants have a responsibility to follow the research guidelines and promptly notify the research team of any discomfort or issues they experience.

Research safety is of utmost importance to us. Union Hospital's research activities are evaluated annually. There were no serious adverse events, negative feedback or complaints received in 2023.

Collaborative Research, Advancing Healthcare for Patients

Beyond our internal research initiatives, Union Hospital has also forged close partnerships with different research experts from academic institutions, e.g. the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), to carry out different researches. Through clinical practice and scientific research, we are driving medical advancement and continuously elevating the standard of patient care.
