Nasopharyngeal Cancer

Nasopharyngeal cancer is a malignant tumor of the nasopharynx, often associated with certain viral infections.

Symptoms:

  • Nasal Congestion or Nosebleeds: Persistent nasal obstruction or unexplained nosebleeds
  • Ear Discomfort: Tinnitus or hearing loss
  • Sore Throat: Ongoing discomfort or pain in the throat
  • Swollen Lymph Nodes: Enlargement of lymph nodes in the neck
  • Weight Loss: Unexplained weight loss
     

Causes:

  • Viral Infections: Particularly associated with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection
  • Environmental Factors: Exposure to certain chemicals
  • Genetic Factors: Family history may increase risk
     

High-Risk Groups:

  • Asian Males: Particularly older males
  • Individuals with a Family History: Those with a family history of nasopharyngeal carcinoma
  • Individuals Exposed to Certain Environmental Factors: Such as long-term exposure to wood dust or certain chemicals
