Dual Source Photon-Counting Computed Tomography Scanner (PCCT)

Hong Kong's First Dual Source Photon-Counting Computed Tomography Scanner

The Dual Source Photon-Counting Computed Tomography (PCCT) scanner goes beyond conventional CT scans to provide higher sensitivity and ultra-high resolution images, as well as rapid scans with a reduction in radiation dose of up to 70% and contrast medium of up to 30%. By providing our patients with a safe, accurate, and thorough examination, PCCT offers the advantage of an early detection of critical conditions including early stage lung cancer and coronary heart disease.

Key Highlights:

Clinical Benefits

  • PCCT offers impressive slice thickness of 0.2mm by reducing the size of detector pixels, resulting in the improved evaluation of ultra-fine structures.
  • Cardiology: High-detail coronary imaging. Improved visualisation of small structures even with heavy calcification or stents.
  • Oncology: Precise tumour assessment with low-dose spectral imaging.
  • Neurology: Enhanced small cerebral blood vessel visualization.
  • Cardiothoracic Surgery: High-resolution lung imaging for early cancer detection.

Reduced Patient Risk

  • The breakthrough technology of the PCCT can produce sharper and more detailed images with low dosage for both radiation and contrast medium.
  • A single low-dose CT thorax has a radiation dose equivalent to just two chest X-rays.
  • Significantly improves patient safety and particularly beneficial in preventive examinations.

Enhanced Patient Experience

  • 82 cm wide gantry opening reduces the feeling of claustrophobia.
  • Low 38 cm tabletop height for comfort and easy access.
  • Rapid gantry rotation time of 0.25 seconds enables swift scanning procedures, without requiring the patient to hold their breath or the need for sedation for children.
  • Expanded patient reach.
