Our resident paediatrician team is highly skilled in treating pre-mature babies, babies with congenital or acquired infections, and respiratory distress syndrome, etc. With paediatricians stationed at the hospital round-the-clock, each newborn will receive the best care throughout their stay at Union Hospital.
Professional and Friendly Nursing Team
With experienced staff and a friendly and caring attitude, all nursing staff understands the needs and concerns of parents and newborns. Moreover, qualified Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) nurses and the latest equipments ensure that each newborn are monitored closely with the best care provided.
Continuous Monitoring, Screening and Early Detection of Problems
All newborns will be placed in an incubator during the first 3 hours after birth. Our staff will closely monitor their body temperature, breathing, heart rate, and oxygen level, etc., when all vital signs are normal, they will be placed in a baby cot. Each baby cot is equipped with an “Infant Respiratory Monitor” which ensures immediate actions in case the newborn’s breathing becomes irregular.
Nursery staff also monitors each newborn’s jaundice level, and provides vaccinations, routine cord blood screening and conducts screening tests for hearing and congenital heart disease, etc. If any of these problems are detected, appropriate treatments will be given promptly.
Meticulous Care
Mothers are given professional advice on breastfeeding or artificial feeding, talks with demonstration on baby bath, cord care, and baby skin care, etc. Our staff will also share with parents their experiences of child care.
Upon discharge, parents will receive a baby photo album, a “Newborn Care and Well Baby Record” booklet and other gifts for the newborn. Parents can choose to join the “Union Baby Club”, where they will receive the latest news on child care and health, and can join various kinds of club activities. Discounts will also been given to members when they use our specialty out-patient and admission services in the future.
