Is bloody stool a sign of colorectal cancer?

Dr Chu Kwok Keung
Bloody stool is only one of the symptoms of colorectal cancer, so bloody stool is not necessarily a sign of colorectal cancer, while in the early stage of colorectal cancer, there may not be bloody stool. There are many causes of bloody stool, including problems with digestive tract such as gastric ulcer, gastroenteritis, colonic polyp, hemorrhoids and anal fissure. Regardless of the cause, bloody stool is an abnormal phenomenon, and you should consult your doctor immediately. You should observe the colour, shape and amount of blood in your stool, and inform your doctor about them in detail. This helps doctor to advise on the best treatment options.

There are many causes of rectal bleeding. Colour of the blood indicates different digestive tract problems, which can be hemorrhoids, anal fissure and colorectal ulcer. You should see your doctor as soon as possible to confirm the cause.
