Adult - Wound Care


Bleeding:

  • Bleeding can usually be stopped by applying direct pressure to the wound
  • All wounds require immediate thorough cleansing with clean water
  • Wounded extremities should be immobilized and elevated
  • If the bleeding continues and seeps through the bandage, add more absorbent material. Do not remove the first bandage

Wound dressing:

  • Use antiseptic lotion for general wound dressing
  • Clean the wound from the central part, avoid bringing germs from outside the wound
  • Cover wound with commercially available dressing material, such as clean gauze
  • Seek medical care for any suspected wound infection
