Child - Convulsion / Seizure / Epilepsy


Convulsion / seizure / epilepsy can affect any process of brain coordinates. It can produce temporary confusion, complete loss of consciousness, a staring spell, or uncontrollable jerking movements of the arms and legs. There are several types of seizure, each with different causes. A febrile seizure is a convulsion in young children caused by a sudden spike in body temperature, often from an infection.

First aid to patient:

  • Remove sharp objects (glasses, furniture and other objects) from around the patient to prevent injury
  • Loosen clothing around the person's neck
  • Do not try to hold the patient down or restrain him or her, this can result in injury
  • Turn the patient on one side to keep airway clear.
  • seek medical advice

Note:

  • Do not insert any objects in the patient's mouth
  • Try to count and record episodes, it helps the doctor for diagnosis
