- In-patient Services: Previous Page

(1) Verification of client's identities

Our admission staff will take photo of our patient. This photo will be used to verify patient's identity during his/her stay, including relevant nursing care, blood tests and operative procedures to ensure accurate and safe treatments are provided at all times. Once the patient is settled down in the room, nurses will verify the patient's identification against the photo shown on the handheld device before putting on a 2D wristband.

(2) Mobile Clinical Solution

2.1 Patient's information including pulse, respiratory rate, body temperature and blood pressure will be keyed in the Mobile Clinical Solution using the handheld device. An ALERT message will pop up automatically when the deviation of patients condition and or incorrect information entered. This cautions nurses to take immediate and appropriate action.

2.2 In blood sample taking process, Laboratory Assistant or Medical Technologist will collect blood specimen from the patients after verification by the 2D barcode. Labels will then be generated and stricken onto the blood samples immediately to eliminate mismatching of blood samples.

2.3 The Electronic prescription allows online input and transmission of prescription to the Pharmacy. This helps minimize transcription or dosage error. As a result, an efficient, effective and professional clinical service could be achieved.

2.4 During the medication administration round, two nurses will make use of the handheld device to cross check the accuracy of the prescriptions, the time, dose and to verify the patient’s identity against the 2D barcode wristband.  By doing this, we could eliminate the risk of medication error.

2.5 It is easy and convenient to retrieve patient’s medical history and investigative reports using the handheld device.  When the patient is ready to be discharged, doctors could make use of the Electronic Discharge Summary to summarize patients’ information in detail.

- Out-patients Services:

(1) EMC Real-Time Queuing Time

With our computerized triage system, patients are put under different triage categories according to the nature and severity of the conditions namely: stable, emergency and critical.  Waiting status will be shown on the Display Board to keep patients informed.  Patient could also access Union’s website to find out the estimated waiting time.

(2) Patient Identification Bar Code

A ticket with queuing number will be given to patients at registration. The bar code on this ticket will be used throughout the Out-Patient service for patient identification.

(3) Clinical Management Program

Under Clinical Management Program, patient medical record exchange between Union Hospital and our polyclinics is feasible.

(4) Electronic Prescription & Drug Interaction Alert
